With just over a week until the 2013 NAB AFL draft some serious decisions will be getting made soon at the Cattery.

With the departures of premiership players Paul Chapman, Josh Hunt, James Podsiadly, Trent West and Joel Corey, five numbers etched into Cats history will be re-assigned in 2014.

The last time we had a so many recognisable and revered numbers free was 2011 when the retirements of Cameron Ling, Darren Milburn and Cameron Mooney saw Joel Hamling (45), Shane Kersten (39) and Jordan Murdoch (21) put their own names on the special lockers.

Last season, the retirement of Matthew Scarlett saw an existing player upgrade to the famed number 30 jumper when Nathan Vardy accepted Scarlett’s request that he wear it going forward.

Combined with the fact that the 35, 8, 31, 12 and 11 jumpers were all worn by modern day heroes is the fact that names such as Billy Goggin (35), Bernie Smith (11) and Russ Renfrey (8) have also worn the numbers.

Also added into the new jumper sweepstakes are 37 and 42 which were worn by rookies Cam Eardley and Ryan Bathie in 2013.

The question remaining to be seen is whether or not any current Cats will change their numbers to one of the blue chip ones available or whether the 2013 national and rookie draft picks will inherit some pretty hefty numbers.
