Despite electrifying the Cats faithful, Geelong’s young left footer, Jordan Murdoch, sees plenty of improvement in his game.

Murdoch who played an outstanding game in the NAB Cup on Saturday, contributed two goals, 11 disposals and four marks in the Cats 63 point win against the Crows at Simonds Stadium.

Murdoch was amongst a long list of young draftees who joined the Cats senior list and played a pivotal role on the field, including Mark Blicavs, George Horlin-Smith and Shane Kersten who kicked three goals.

Murdoch told RSN that his game on Saturday was instinctive and despite his enthralling performance he is determined to keep levelheaded and still has a lot to prove in order to retain a position in the Cats’ senior side.

‘’Like any draftee, you’ve got to give yourself time, you can’t make unrealistic expectations especially coming to a club like Geelong.’’
‘’At the moment I’m just planning to improve and to keep improving.’’

The Cats’ dominant senior list continues to push the younger players to their limits, helping the likes of Murdoch with skill development and game performance when playing out on the field.

‘’It is very easy when you have that senior group there, they’re great… especially last year when I was coming back playing defense to have Corey Enright and Scarlet in that backline helping you, it brings the best out of your game.’’

As Murdoch steps into his second year at the club, he realises how important it is to take every opportunity to play AFL footy seriously, giving nothing less than your best on the day.

Murdoch knows if he does not perform the opportunity will be taken away as quick as it came.

‘’When you get your opportunity you’ve really got to make it, otherwise you’ll probably being (back) playing VFL next week.’’
