The Cats are flying on the way to September and will be looking to sure up a spot in the top four with the final three matches on 2014. Who can come in to assist with that? Here are some of the contenders:

Mitch Brown
Whilst not the conditions suiting a tall target, Brown did enough to give his chances of a senior call up a boost. 13 touches, three tackles and a goal from the tall forward against North Ballarat.

Billie Smedts
Smedts is beginning to string together some really solid performances in the VFL which will be impressing the Cats. Such a talented player as Smedts, the Cats will have no issue with the fact he’s only played a handful of AFL games in 2014 with the knowledge he has no problems fitting in at the top level. He finished with 12 touches, nine tackles and four inside 50s on Sunday.

Darcy Lang
Lang is emerging as perhaps the Cats most interesting option outside of the AFL side. The Cats first pick in last year’s draft is pushing his case for another game this season with some impressive performances as a midfielder/small forward. His stats on Sunday were telling. His 15 disposals were combined with 10 tackles, three inside 50s and a goal from a tough angle in the driving rain.

Jordan Schroder
Two weeks in a row now Schroder has showed his value as a midfield/forward player. Sunday saw him rack up 22 touches, 13 tackles and five clearances. Although yet to play a game in 2014, Schroder’s VFL numbers are impressive.

Josh Walker
Walker put his credentials forward again for a spot in the Cats AFL team with a strong performance in the VFL on Sunday. After Dawson Simpson went down, Walker took on the number one ruck role and thrived. He finished with 15 touches, 29 hitouts and a goal.
