The VFL Cats have received a boost at the selection table with talented quartet Jackson Thurlow, Jake Kolodjashnij, Nick Bourke and Michael Luxford all set to return for the ‘VFL Match of the Round’ against Williamstown at Burbank Oval on Saturday afternoon.

The young Cats line up will be out get to get their 2014 season back on track after being comprehensively beaten by a very experienced and talented Richmond line up two weeks ago at Punt Road Oval.

St Joseph’s midfielder Tom Atkins has once again been selected as the 23rd player after an impressive VFL debut in which he gathered 21 disposals and laid 6 tackles.

St Joseph’s teammates Cameron Tudor and Daniel Measures have both been included in the 27-man squad after a string of promising performances at GFL level.

In coming weeks the VFL Cats look set to welcome back a host of AFL listed players, with the likes of Billie Smedts, Shane Kersten, Lincoln McCarthy, Josh Cowan and Allen Christensen all inching closer to possible returns.

After a slow start to their first season as a stand alone VFL club since 2001, the Andy Collins coached Williamstown Seagulls are starting to hit their straps in a big way - they currently sit 4th on the ladder with 4 wins and 3 losses and have played some their breathtaking football in recent weeks.

After separating from the Western Bulldogs in the off-season, Williamstown went about putting together a very strong list that includes the likes of former AFL listed players Ryan Ferguson, Peter Faulks, Ben Davies, Brad Mangan, Mitch Banner and Scott Clouston.
Together with elite VFL players such as Ben Jolley, Willy Wheeler, Kane Lambert, Adam Marcon, Leigh Masters, Nick Meese, Cameron Lockwood and talented youngsters such as Sean Tighe, Daniel Kulikowski, Jake Owen and Jake McKenzie, the Seagulls have assembled a combination that will see them contend for the 2014 VFL premiership.

It will be the first meeting between the two sides since the Cats defeated the Seagulls by 82 points in last year’s Preliminary Final.

Incredibly the Cats have only named 9 players in this week’s line up that played that day.

For all Cats fans that cannot get to Burbank Oval on Saturday, the big clash will be telecast live on the ABC from 1.00pm

The match will also be tweeted live, so follow @GeelongVFL on Twitter for all the action including live scores, stat updates and photos.
