Geelong Advertiser’s People’s Voice Survey has declared the completion of Simonds Stadium’s refurbishment as the region’s top priority.

Geelong Cats are thrilled with the response and cannot thank their members, fans and the people of Geelong enough for their support.

Taking almost 70% of the votes, Simonds Stadium’s redevelopment towered over the other nine projects on Geelong’s to do list with a high of 66.61% of the votes.

Second to poll was the Yarra Street Pier with 14.63% and in third place was the Ring Road Connections on 3.71%.

Out of the 4,819 people who participated in the survey, more than 3,200 locals voted for stages four and five of Simonds Stadium to be complete.

The project of $140 million will replace the Brownlow, Jennings and Ford stands and the Northern Terraces, as well as the refurbishment of the Hickey stand.

The completion of stages four and five would significantly enhance the status of Geelong's stadium, making it the home of Victoria’s third national multi-purpose arena, after the MCG and Etihad Stadium.

This expansion of the stadium means the city of Geelong would be called upon to host a variety of national and international events, including the T20 Big Bash, NRL, Super 15 Rugby and A-League Soccer matches as well as popular concerts.

Once again, the Geelong Cats would like to thank everyone who voted for the completion of Simonds Stadium.
