In this week’s Tweet the Coach, Chris Scott revealed that Cats utility Mark Blicavs could be tried as a key forward alongside Tom Hawkins.

“We think that Mark has the potential to play as a key forward… and then play two ruckmen in addition, that’s a possibility for us,” Scott told Cats TV.

The former steeplechaser, who was picked up by the Cats in 2012 under the alternative talent rules, was forced to step into the number one ruckman role last year following the absence of Hamish McIntosh and Dawson Simpson.

But in Round 10 against North Melbourne, Blicavs was subbed into the backline for Tom Lonergan and rose to the challenge, before also sneaking forward and kicking the match-sealing goal.

“We’re really open minded to him playing in any position,” Scott said.

“The difficulty if he plays as the true second key forward is that he will also need to play in the ruck as well, and that’s a very difficult role for any player.

“That also makes it hard on Tom Hawkins as well because it means that if Mark’s playing as the second key forward and then going into the ruck, Tom would have to carry the key forward duties by himself,” Scott said.
