Healthy Heroes presented by Geelong Cats and GMHBA, is an engaging, interactive and exciting educational program that encourages and inspires students to take positive action to protect and enhance their own health and wellbeing. Healthy Heroes focuses on 5 key areas; Physical Activity, Nutrition, Hydration, Screen Time and Sleep!

In 2018, AFL and VFLW players along with Cats and GMHBA staff will facilitate over 100 Healthy Heroes sessions to Year 3 and 4 students at 90 schools across the greater Geelong region. This will see over 6,500 students equipped with the knowledge they need to improve on the five key areas.

The program is one of the 10 flagship Community programs, which has a special focus on youth.

Online Fun
An interactive Healthy Heroes website has also been developed to help educate students on all five key areas. The website features videos with Harry Taylor and Kate Darby, term classroom challenges, quizzes and activities, which can be done in the classroom or at home.

Plus, students can download a copy of the Healthy Cats recipe book, which has some fantastic lunchbox ideas and recipes from their favourite Cats players!

There is something on the website for everyone, including parents and teachers! Visit the website at www.healthyheroes.geelongcats.com.au to check it out.

Testimonial
“We learnt about being healthy heroes by talking about eating healthy food and learning how to stay fit by spending at least 1 hour of exercise outside and the longest someone should be looking on at a screen should be two hours a day.

They taught us how to have a healthy lunch box. Including that a child should have two serves of fruit and five serves of vegetables a day but don’t forget to have eight glasses of water a day for kids.”
