GOLD Coast star Gary Ablett is set to line up against Geelong at Simonds Stadium on Sunday, despite admitting he is being troubled by shoulder soreness.

"[My shoulder] is not 100 per cent. I won't lie about that," Ablett said after the Suns were beaten by St Kilda on Saturday night.

"But I'm putting my hand up to play each week. I've got to make sure I play my role.

"I'm looking forward to next week and hopefully putting in a better performance.

"Getting knocks on it, that's not ideal. It definitely stirs it up, but as the weeks roll on it will hopefully get stronger and I will feel more confident in it."

Ablett's shoulder soreness, which stems from the injury that sidelined him for the last part of last season, has prevented him from spending as much time in the midfield as he would like.

"At the end of the day, I'm happy to play wherever Rocket [Suns coach Rodney Eade] wants to play me," he said.

"I find it hard at times when we might not be winning centre bounces. As a captain I want to push myself up there.

"I’ve just got to trust in Rocket, the doctors, the fitness staff, that they know best."

Like the Cats, the Suns have lost their first two games of the season.

Ablett is unhappy with the situation and could be seen rallying his teammates after the defeat at the hands of the Saints.

"I just pretty much said to them that it is obviously disappointing. The effort wasn’t good enough," he said.

"I said to them, 'Boys, the two performances we’ve put in isn’t acceptable.'

"We just didn't play the brand of footy we know we can play. They out-worked us, our pressure wasn't great.

"It was footy of 2011, 2012 when we weren’t playing four quarters of football."
