Daniel Menzel will make his long-awaited return to football when he lines up for the VFL Cats this Saturday afternoon.

Menzel will return for his first competitive hit-out in the VFL since he suffered a fourth serious knee injury in early 2013.

The 24-year-old has completed a strong week on the training track and has been named to begin in the midfield this weekend.

First year players Nakia Cockatoo (groin) and Jordan Cunico (knee) will also return from injury. Cockatoo has recovered from an adductor strain which has kept him sidelined for three weeks and Cunico will return after undergoing surgery in late May on the lateral meniscus in his right knee.

Shane Kersten will play for the VFL Cats this week, his second VFL game for the season. His only other VFL game this year was also against the Werribee Tigers where he kicked three goals.

This weekend three of the Cats VFL listed players have been selected to represent the Victorian Country Football League against the VAFA (Victorian Amatuer Football Association) in annual AFL Victoria representative carnival.

Dane McFarlane (Newtown & Chillwell) and James Linton (Colac) will play for VCFL Division 1 team whilst Tom Atkins (St Josephs) will captain the VCFL Under 19 team.

Head to head the two sides have played 25 times with Geelong 13 wins and Werribee 12.

Their last meeting was round 1 of this season, the Cats 12.12.84 defeated the Tigers 10.6.66. The Cats currently sit 11th on the VFL ladder with four wins, six losses and the Tigers fourth with seven wins and four losses.

The 27-man squad will become 23 on Saturday morning.
