Chris Scott has revealed that a strong home crowd roar helps the Cats players “more than you know” in Tweet the Coach this week.

The Geelong coach raved about the way the crowd got behind the Cats on Saturday night against Fremantle and described the electric atmosphere as incredibly important.

“From my perspective, and certainly speaking to the players, that was as good an atmosphere as we’ve experienced down in Geelong… keep up the good work,” Scott told Cats TV.

As the scores tightened, the crowd got louder and the players were truly thankful, admitting it gave them an extra boost.

“The crowd were unbelievable… we asked them to bring a bit of noise tonight and they certainly did that and it definitely helped us get over the line I reckon,” Duncan said post-game on Saturday night.

Plenty of the players took to Twitter following the game to thank the fans, with power forward Tom Hawkins saying “the 26 855 here tonight got us across the line”.

The Fremantle crowd is always dominatingly vocal at home and the Cats have been yearning for the same roar down at Kardinia Park.

Scott admitted that it is harder to achieve that surround sound at Simonds Stadium but said it was certainly done on Saturday night.

“We are at a little bit of a disadvantage down here in Geelong given the size of the stadium compared to some others: the Adelaide Oval (and) Subiaco for example.

“And the fact that there’s a little bit more open air, it’s not as enclosed as some of those other stadiums where the sound really reverberates,” Scott said.

Saturday night’s crowd marks the second largest for the season, with the first ever Friday night match at Simonds Stadium drawing a slightly larger crowd earlier this year against the Kangaroos.

“We have an opportunity to make this venue an even bigger fortress than it is with the increase in capacity over the next couple of years,” Scott said.

The Cats are hoping the home crowd continues to get louder as finals approach and the support becomes increasingly crucial.
