The Cats' 48-point win over Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval on Saturday night was one for the ages.

The boys in the hoops trailed by 24 points at quarter-time, before booting 13 of the last 15 goals of the game.

There were many heroic performers for Geelong.

Rhys Stanley reprised his masterful effort at the venue last season by dominating in the ruck.

Big Rhys finished with 25 hit-outs and a career-high 13 hit-outs to advantage.

According to Champion Data, Stanley's work launched six scores, including five goals. He has also took five marks and kicked a goal of his own.

Up forward, Daniel Menzel put his kicking yips behind him by kicking a team-high three goals, while all the defenders deserve a mention after limiting the Power to just three goals after quarter-time.

But the story of the night was the Cats' midfield domination.

There were plenty of contributors to this effort, including Mitch Duncan, who excelled with 29 disposals at almost 80 per cent efficiency.

In the end, however, the best-on-ground honours came down to a battle between Geelong's two superstars, Joel Selwood and Patrick Dangerfield.

Selwood finished with 28 disposals, 11 clearances and a goal, while Dangerfield racked up 29 touches, eight inside-50s and two goals.

The panel that decided the recipient of the Peter Badcoe VC Medal eventually went for Selwood in a tight finish, and the skipper was an extremely worthy winner.
