What a brilliant end to the home and away season it was.

The Cats thumping Melbourne by 111 points before a raucous Simonds Stadium crowd, with pretty much the whole team finding top form on the eve of the finals.

The last quarter was extraordinary, the boys piling on 10.1 in a blistering display.

Some of the team's biggest names were on fire, with Joel Selwood and Patrick Dangerfield leading the way in the middle of the ground, Tom Hawkins kicking six goals and taking nine marks up forward, and Harry Taylor just about impassable down down back.

The boys now have the best part of a fortnight to prepare for their massive qualifying final clash with Hawthorn at the MCG on Friday, September 9.

Saturday's win over Melbourne was indeed a beauty, and it created a talking point among us at Cats Media.

Was it Geelong's best victory so far in 2016?

Given the Cats finished their home and away campaign with a 17-5 win-loss record, there are plenty of other contenders.

Some that spring to mind are the round one victory over Hawthorn at the 'G, the wins over the Power and the Crows at the Adelaide Oval, the round seven win over West Coast at Simonds Stadium and the two thumping victories over the Western Bulldogs.
