Cameron Mooney has had enough.

Donning the red strip of the All-Stars, the affectionately named ‘Big Hairy Cat’ will run out for his second EJ Whitten Legends Game on Friday night, and there’ll be just one thing on his mind.

“I tell you what – I’d like to win. I’m sick of being beaten by Victoria,” Mooney told Cats Media game-day morning.

“I grew up a New South Wales boy and really hated the Vics. We lost to them last year in a kick-off and you know what, just because it’s down here in Victoria, they’re going to have all the support, it’d be nice to knock them over tonight.”

Now in its 21st year, the EJ Whitten Legends Game brings together footballing greats, celebrities and media personalities in the name of charity and the late EJ Whitten.

Whitten is considered a football icon and recognised in the Australian Football Hall of Fame as a legend of the game; a larger-than-life character whose passion for his beloved Bulldogs was only matched by his love of State of Origin.

Whitten passed away in 1995 following a long battle with prostate cancer, however, his legacy lives on through the EJ Whitten Foundation and Legends Game, raising vital funds and awareness for men’s health.

“It’s been amazing how much money they’ve raised over the years,” Mooney said.

“This is my second game and I had such a fun time last time last year so I was pretty keen to get back involved.

“It was a fun game but more afterwards, to sit down with players I played against or those I didn’t get to play against but I idolised. I was sitting there having a drink and taking selfies with Tony Modra and it was the best night of my life.”

Making his debut this year will be Mooney’s former premiership teammate and Brownlow medallist Jimmy Bartel, but don’t expect any love to be lost between the pair.

“I’ll run through Jimmy at some stage, even though he’s obviously had a personal trainer for the last six months to get himself right for his modelling shots,” Mooney laughed.

“It’ll be fun when I do plough his head into the turf.”

Mooney, Bartel and a host of other stars will take to Etihad Stadium from 7:50pm tonight for the 21st EJ Whitten Legends Game.

Tickets are available for purchase here, with the game also broadcast free-to-air on Channel Seven.
