Geelong Cats vice-captain Harry Taylor has reconfirmed the club’s position on discrimination in light of comments aired last night on Channel 7.

Saturday Night Football host Brian Taylor came under fire after using a discriminatory term to refer to Taylor’s wave whilst being chaired off in his 150th game last weekend.

Speaking at the club’s Auskick Superclinic on Sunday morning, Harry Taylor said whilst he wasn’t personally offended by the slur he said there was no place for such words in society.

“He’s apologised now and we accept the apology, and I certainly accept the apology.” Taylor said.

“Our club respects diversity in our game and in our society and I know all of our players are very big on that and I don’t think those things should be said in our game but also in society.”

Channel 7’s Taylor used the half-time break of last night’s Sydney and Carlton clash to apologies to the Cats star.

“In the pre-game show I said something that I regret, and I sincerely apologise in regard to Harry Taylor and anyone — and particularly Harry and any of his friends — that were offended by my remark,” he said.

“I apologise for that and I sincerely regret any harm that I have caused. So, sorry for that.”

In a statement, Channel 7 managing director Lewis Martin said the comments were “unacceptable and should not and will not be tolerated” before going on to say “Brian has been censured, and will be supported through counselling and education to ensure this mistake will never happen again”.

Channel 7 has confirmed Taylor will return to the host position next Saturday night.

The club recently released an open letter on marriage equality the contents of which can be viewed here.
