V/Line is advising footy fans that Geelong line special trains will terminate and originate from Southern Cross instead of Richmond for the AFL elimination final between Geelong and Melbourne at the MCG on Friday 7 September.

Fans will be able to catch a metropolitan service from Southern Cross to Richmond Station.

For Friday night’s blockbuster match, regular services depart Geelong every 20 minutes before the game and three special trains will run after the game, in addition to normal scheduled Geelong services.

V/Line and Metro Trains staff will be on hand to help fans transfer to and from metropolitan services.

The service changes were due to upgrades to the signalling, power and platforms in the metropolitan area.

Upgrades in the metropolitan network, affect the way trains can move in and out of Richmond Station.

Fans can also catch the route 48 tram between Southern Cross Station and the ground or travel on a Metro service to and from Jolimont Station.

Car parking closed

For safety and security reasons, there will not be any public parking in Yarra Park. However, there will be a limited number of spaces available via Gate 3 for disability permit holders from 2.30pm.
