With only nine rounds remaining in the home and away season, we look back and reflect on the Cats' performances so far this season.

Today, we focus on rounds ten through 13.

Round 10: Geelong 11.7 (73) defeated Carlton 5.15 (45)

It wasn't pretty but the Cats fought for a victory against Carlton on a very slippery and dewy night in Geelong. Geelong kicked four goals in the opening term but could only add one in the second term as it became a dog fight for most of the second quarter. Jamaine Jones made his debut for Geelong on ‘Djilang’ round and kicked the opening goal of the game with his first kick. The win was soured by a serious leg injury to cult hero Esava Ratugolea. Tom Stewart continued his good form with 28 disposals and 10 marks, while Sam Menegola kicked three goals.

Round 11: Gold Coast 4.12 (36) defeated by Geelong 17.19 (121)

It was a return to the Gold Coast for Gary Ablett in round 11. It was a dirty day for the Suns as they lost by 85 points. A seven goal to nil second term set up the big win for Geelong, with Ablett was instrumental with 37 disposals and three goals. Mitch Duncan had 32 disposals, while Sam Menegola (30 disposals, two goals), Joel Selwood (33 disposals) and Tom Stewart (28 and 10 marks) were vital in the win.

Round 12: Geelong 14.12 (96) defeated North Melbourne 8.11 (59)

It was a classic performance from Geelong at home to celebrate Gary Ablett’s 200th game for the club. It was a thrilling game for the first three quarters as Geelong held a three-goal lead heading into the last, but a five-goal term allowed them run out 37-point winners. Mark Blicavs continued his rise from former steeplechaser to superstar defender as he kept the Coleman Medal leader Ben Brown goalless. Ablett had 34 disposals and eight tackles in the victory, while Tom Hawkins had 23 disposals and three goals. The win was soured by a serious knee injury to popular clubman Aaron Black.

Round 13: Geelong 9.11 (65) defeated by Richmond 12.11 (83)

Geelong started strong early against the reigning premiers to lead by 15 points at quarter time. The Tigers fought back kicking four goals to one in the second term to hold a narrow 2-point lead heading into the main break. The third quarter was goal for goal as Geelong trailed by a solitary point heading into the final term. A few costly errors early allowed Richmond to gain the ascendancy as they kicked four goals to one to run out 18-point winners. Captain Joel Selwood did everything he could to get the Cats over the line with 29 disposals and two very important goals. Gary Ablett (25 disposals), Sam Menegola (21 and nine tackles) and Rhys Stanley (16 disposals, 34 hitouts, one goal) were Geelong’s best.
