SIX-TIME Grammy award winners The Black Eyed Peas are set to bring the MCG to life before this year's AFL Grand Final.

The AFL confirmed on Friday, The Black Eyed Peas and Australian rock legend Jimmy Barnes will perform some of their biggest hits in the Virgin Australia Pre-Game Show before the first bounce.

It will be the first time since 2009 that The Black Eyed Peas will perform on Australian soil.

The band, consisting of will.i.am, apl.de.ap and Taboo, has sold 50 million albums worldwide and won 11 ARIA awards, and will release a new single Big Love on Friday.

"We are honoured to be heading to Melbourne to perform at the AFL Grand Final day," The Black Eyed Peas said.

"This is the biggest day in Australian sport, so we will be pulling out all the stops for this special performance."

The Black Eyed Peas have had 15 top 10 ARIA singles, including Don't Phunk With My Heart and I Gotta Feeling.

Fergie will not be coming down under, after the singer parted ways with The Black Eyed Peas last year.

However, AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan told Melbourne radio station 3AW that was not an issue.

"Will.i.am is the lead singer on all the songs they'll play and (has) been the key songwriter," McLachlan said.

Barnes will also take to the stage for the premiership party, with a free concert to follow the Grand Final from 7pm at the MCG.
