The Geelong Cats today officially launched the Geelong Cats Community Challenge which aims to raise $1 million in 24 hours to help support the club’s community program.

The ambitious Geelong Cats Community Challenge aims to sustain the club’s 10 flagship community programs for future generations.

From 1pm on Thursday 3rd May – 1pm Friday 4th May, the community will have 24 hours to make a difference.

Every dollar raised will be donated to the Geelong Cats Community Foundation which supports the club‘s 10 flagship community programs that focus on building a better and healthier community with a special focus on youth.

Every donation the club receives in the 24 hours will be matched by three groups of generous “matchers”, therefore quadrupling each donation, meaning a gift of $25 will be worth $100 and $100 will be worth $400.

Geelong’s Chief Executive Brian Cook officially launched the Geelong Cats Community Challenge this morning.

“Making a difference in our community is at the heart of what we do”, Cook said.

“We are extremely proud of our 10 flagship community programs. Just Think has provided education around alcohol and safe drinking behaviours to year 9 students since 2008 and the Healthy Heroes school program educated 9,000 primary school students on health, nutrition and physical education in it’s first year alone.

“It is these fantastic programs like Just Think and Healthy Heroes that we want to be able to sustain for years to come.

“We have set ourselves an ambitious goal, but we are up for the challenge and we hope our community are too.”

Cats vice-captain Patrick Dangerfield encouraged Geelong members, supporters and people to get on board this club-first initiative.

“We are a one club town, and with that comes certain responsibilities and that’s something we embrace.

“We as the players, our coaches, our staff aspire to make a positive difference in the community.

“But we need the help of our members and supporters to raise these funds, so we can continue making a difference for generations to come.

“Spread the word to family and friends because we need everyone’s help to achieve our goal of $1 million in 24 hours.”
