AFL 2017 First Preliminary Final - Adelaide v Geelong

Cats fans were rapt with Patrick Dangerfield's season

GEELONG fans aren't surprised to see Steven Motlop in the shop window during the NAB AFL Trade Period, giving the goalsneak's season a big thumbs down.

Despite an excellent finals series, Motlop topped the vote for the year's biggest flop as fans gave their season verdict on the Cats in an AFL.com.au survey.

Patrick Dangerfield was emphatically named Geelong's player of the season, earning the nod from 69 per cent of surveyed fans.

The drop-off was dramatic, with fellow midfielder Mitch Duncan recognised in second place for his career-best year with just 12 per cent of the vote.

Support for coach Chris Scott waned, dropping from the mid-season fan survey result of 84 per cent to 73 per cent, following the Cats' second straight preliminary finals exit.

Here are the full survey results, including a selection of Cats fans' moments to remember and forget.

What was the moment you'll remember?

Tom Stewart's run and tackle from defence in the semi-final.
- Zac McKeown, Hobart Tas

Beating the Tigers and silencing the critics with no Selwood, Hawkins, Duncan or Blicavs.
- Georgia Hoodie, Ballarat Vic

Beating Sydney in the semi-final. The tackling was the Cats of days gone by.
- Reg Rathmann, Gungahlin ACT

Dangerfield kicking 5.6 against Hawthorn on one leg.
- Nic Bouvier, Sydney NSW

What was the moment you'd rather forget?

Adelaide kicking seven first-quarter goals in the preliminary final.
- Shane Turner, Banksia Beach Qld

Cockatoo doing his hammy three times in the season. Kid can't catch a break.
- Tom Reed, Melbourne Vic

Loss to Richmond when they were given our home final.
- Chris Tulip, West Hobart Tas

Getting beaten by Collingwood, Gold Coast and Essendon in consecutive weeks.
- Michael Cotton, Geraldton WA
