GEELONG forward James Parsons is available for the club's blockbuster qualifying final clash against Richmond at the MCG on Friday night.

However, Nakia Cockatoo is still at least another week away as he continues his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury.

Geelong physio Mark Young also said skipper Joel Selwood would be put through his final test at training on Wednesday to ensure he is fit and raring to go against the Tigers.

Parsons suffered a mid-foot sprain when Giant Nathan Wilson fell across his foot in round 23, and despite doubts about whether he would play against the Tigers, Young delivered some positive news for the young forward.

"It (Parsons' foot) was bruised and he had a minor strain but he was in training on Monday and if everything goes well [on Wednesday] he'll be set to play," Young told the club's website.

Parsons' place in the side is important from a structural and pressure point of view, with fellow small forwards Cockatoo, Cory Gregson and Lincoln McCarthy all on the sidelines through injury.

Cockatoo remains with the rehab group but the youngster has started to increase his running speed, meaning a return is not too far away.

The dynamic forward suffered his third hamstring strain of the year against Carlton in round 19, after missing five weeks with a recurrence of a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, ruck option Rhys Stanley is also ready to play if picked after overcoming a calf complaint.

Stanley has not played since facing Richmond in round 21, with Wylie Buzza taking the second tall forward/back-up ruck spot in recent weeks.

"Rhys picked up a minor calf strain at an annoying time of year for him. After a couple of weeks of rehab, he's back in full training so he's also available," Young said.
