Scott Selwood is proud to be reaching his 150-game milestone when the Cats take on Collingwood at the MCG on Saturday.

The youngest of the four Selwood brothers has enjoyed an impressive career, which began at West Coast where he played 135 games over eight seasons.

"To be honest, I have reflected this week on how lucky I've been to be involved with two great footy clubs and have a lot of great influences on me throughout that time," Selwood told Cats Media.

"Reaching 150 games probably just means it's time to reflect and be grateful for what I've got and then know where I'm going and what I want to give back to the footy club now.

"The milestone refocuses me and then I go from there."

The 27-year-old has battled a number of injury problems during his two season with the Cats, but he has featured in the club's past four match and has looked on the verge of recapturing his best form.

"It's still a work in progress," Selwood. "I'm still trying to find my groove and trying to get really consistent in my role.

"The roles have changed a lot with different guys coming in and out and it's just about being really flexible and trying to help others out as well."

The absence of his brother Joel, who recently underwent ankle surgery and hopes to be back for the finals, means Scott Selwood and a number of other midfielders have had to step up in recent weeks.

"When Joel and Pat are in there, you let them focus on what they need to do and some of us others play those run-with roles," he said.

"Now that we've got a different look in there it's really exciting. It's time for us to take more responsibility and ownership of what we're doing and take a bit more of the workload.

"We're exciting about that, so it's good."

This week's clash with Collingwood shapes as a big challenge for the Cats, given they have lost their past three matches against the Magpies and six of the past eight.

"They've played some really good football against us and we don't take anything away from that," Selwood said.

"We think we could've been better in those games and we've identified areas that we could've played better.

"We're expecting them to be at their best against us again, because they enjoy the contest just as much as what we do."

The Cats will head into the match against Collingwood knowing there is plenty on the line.

If Geelong can beat the Magpies and then defeat Greater Western Sydney the following week they will finish the home and away season in second place on the ladder and earn a home qualifying final.

"We're not going to shy away from the fact that if we win the next two it puts us in a really good position on the ladder," Selwood said.

"The first part of that is to win this week - to enjoy the contest and go from there.

"We know what's at stake. We're embracing that and we enjoy those challenges.

"That's what we're here for. To have the opportunity to play in finals."
