Mike Sheahan has heaped praise onto Geelong senior coach Chris Scott

Respected football journalist Mike Sheahan considers Geelong’s Chris Scott underrated for his achievements to date as a senior coach.

Speaking on 1116 SEN Breakfast on Monday morning, the former Herald Sun chief football writer said Scott’s record stacks up against anyone.

“After the [Geelong-Hawthorn] game I thought does Chris Scott get the credit he deserves for what he’s done at Geelong?” Sheahan asked.

“He’s a seven year coach now, I think most of us said or implied that he took over a premiership team and he was almost gifted the first one he won.

“This bloke has a win rate of higher than 70 per cent. No one in the history of the game, with a completed career has had a 70 per cent win rate.

“He’s got a superior record to Alastair Clarkson head to head, and the other thing people say is they’ve got Simonds Stadium as home ground advantage. They don’t play the good teams there, they play them at the neutral venue at the MCG.”

Sheahan also praised Scott’s ability to coach his side to wins in thrillers.

“Chris Scott is 16-2 in games decided by less than two goals. He seems to tick every box this bloke,” he said.

The Cats currently sit in second position at 11-4-1 after 17 rounds of the home and away season.
