You can't beat a week on the Gold Coast.

Well, that was one train of thought after the Cats demolished the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday night.

The boys looked upbeat and refreshed after spending the lead-up training at the Broadbeach footy club and enjoying the warm weather and the wholesome entertainment offerings in south-east Queensland.

Many pundits thought the Lions were in with a good a chance of pulling off an upset, yet Geelong put them to the sword.

In the process, the Cats notched the highest score of the season to date.

There were many impressive aspects of the performance, and the Cats' ability to hit the scoreboard was probably foremost of those.

Tom Hawkins led the way with four goals, while Mark Blicavs and James Parsons recorded career-highs by kicking three each.

Despite having little sleep in the lead-up after the birth of his first child during the week, Patrick Dangerfield was on fire in the midfield, racking up 38 disposals and kicking three goals.

Mitch Duncan, in his 150th game, was also sensational, equalling Danger's haul of 38 touches and also slotting two goals.

And we can't forget the defenders' efforts. Tom Lonergan, who was playing his 200th game, was particularly impressive, holding gun Lions forward Eric Hipwood to just eight disposals.

Then there was Lachie Henderson, who seemed to have the ball on a string.
