A new women's football competition has begun in the Cats' Next Generation Academy zone in East Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.

The four-team Gove AFL Women's league began in mid-June, with Djarrak defeating Gopu in the historic first match at Yirrkala Oval.

The other clubs competing in the competition are the Nhulunbuy Saints and Nguykal.

The Cats are hoping that some young women from East Arnhem Land will come to Geelong to wear the hoops in the future.
