Tom Ruggles is set to be sidelined for around six weeks after dislocating his collarbone in the VFL Cats' loss to Richmond at the Punt Road Oval on Saturday.

The 25-year-old defender had surgery on Monday, as club physio Mark Young explained on the round 14 episode of the GMHBA Health Report.

"It was unfortunate. A heavy collision," Young said of Ruggles' injury.

"He's ruptured or dislocated his collarbone. That required a surgical repair.

"Early reports are something around the six-week mark, as Steve Hocking said earlier [on Tuesday]."

The latest episode of the Health Report also features updates on Mark Blicavs, Nakia Cockatoo and Scott Selwood.
