Cats Media identified four points of interest to follow through the Cats’ round nine clash with Port Adelaide. Here’s how they played out:

Rest up or keep on rolling

The extended break for Port and shorter turnaround for the Cats made little to no difference as both sides came out rather sluggish. Mistakes were made and the game only reached a frenetic pace in the final term with the margin small and time ticking away.

All in all, the Cats were able to grind out a win but neither they nor Port Adelaide would consider their respective breaks a factor.

Throw your arms around me

It was always going to be tough to mimic the previous week’s club-record tackling effort of 134, but the intent was still there. The Cats out-tackled Port by +16 for a total of 90 tackles – 17 of which were laid by Scott Selwood.

It was the second week in a row Selwood registered 17 tackles and it’s fair to say he sets the standard in that area, not only for Geelong but across the AFL.

Milestone Men

It was a win in their milestone matches for Daniel Menzel and Mark Blicavs.

Blicavs had 19 disposals and kicked a goal in his 100th while Menzel had 14 and booted a goal of his own.

Fair dinkum unbelievable

What a night.

Not only did the Cats get the job done on the field, the Cats of 2007 had a night to remember 10 years on from their drought-breaking flag.

21 of the 22 players from ’07 were present last Thursday night, the only absentee being Gary Ablett Jr who was committed to the Gold Coast Suns in the Northern Territory.

The lap of honour was emotional for many, with tens of thousands of fans ensuring they filled Simonds Stadium early to stand and applaud their premiership heroes.

It’s from there proceedings moved behind closed doors and from all reports, a good night was had by all…
