Simonds Stadium may be almost unrecognisable for Geelong premiership-player Nathan Ablett, but the adoring crowd certainly is not.

Returning to his former club to celebrate the 10-year reunion of the drought-breaking 2007 grand final win, Ablett spoke to Krock Football while enjoying a lap of honour before the Cats downed Port Adelaide on Thursday night.

“It’s been such a long time since I’ve been here and the stadium has completely changed,” the 31-year-old said.

“Coming into an atmosphere like this, it’s been such a long time for me so it’s just nice to see the crowd.”

“It’s good to see the fellas again, I haven’t seen them in so long. After chatting with them all, they’ve all got families and it’s good to see everyone in the same place again. It’s great.”

Ablett played 32 games for Geelong and booted three goals in the 2007 premiership win over Port Adelaide, a game he enjoyed the chance to reflect upon.

“I think the lead up to the grand final was something special,” Ablett said.

“It takes a while to stick in that you’re actually there and even once you’ve won it, I think you remember the things weeks later.”

“You reminisce on the year and what you went through.”
