VFL Cats’ midfielders Tom Atkins and Sam McLachlan have been named in the 42-man VFL state squad.

The best of the VFL’s 14 clubs will face off against the WAFL on May 27 at North Port Oval, with Geelong’s two representatives to be coached by current Casey Demons senior coach and former St Kilda forward Justin Plapp.

The initial list of 42 will be trimmed to 30 following round five of the VFL season, though players who are cut will still have the opportunity to be recalled, form permitting.

Geelong defender Dan Capiron has also been included as one of 13 young players to feature in a development squad, which will be invited to train with the main squad.
