Connecting to community is an important part of the Geelong Cats Past Players and Officials Association. For countless years, past players have been visiting hospitals, aged care facilities and hospices to share and reminisce memories with avid Cats fans.

Today marks the beginning of a new partnership with past players to be regular faces in the halls of Anam Cara House. Anam Cara Geelong is a non-denominational not-for-profit community service, providing care for people affected by life limiting illness.

Running on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Anam Cara Geelong Day Hospice program gives carers a much-needed break while their loved one is cared for by a RN1 registered nurse and a dedicated team of volunteers who have each completed Palliative Care Victoria's volunteer training program. This is a free service in a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment. Anam Cara Geelong Day hospice is funded by donations from the Geelong Community and through an Annual Giving Program which is run each April.

Past Player and Official Association Treasurer Eric Nicholl said: “Over the years we have respected what the community have meant to us, and for us it is important to give back in our later years. The Geelong community supported us enormously in our playing careers and now we take great pride in supporting them.”

Anam Cara Geelong Day Hospice Manager, Tessa Davis said: “Anam Cara Staff, Volunteers, Medical Officers and Board Directors value the importance of Hospice care in the City of Greater Geelong. We greatly appreciate when members of the Community visit our Day hospice, and share their stories and roles within the Geelong Region, this bring much Joy and Satisfaction to our Day Hospice Guests”.
