Scott Selwood will miss the Cats’ JLT Community Series opener against Hawthorn in Launceston on Friday night, but is expected to return in game two.

Speaking to the Geelong Advertiser, Geelong football boss Steve Hocking said though the midfielder was not included in the Cats’ 29-man squad on Wednesday, Selwood is tracking well.

“He is OK, he had a little bit of a stress reaction in his big toe within the bone there, and the tissues around that just got a bit inflamed,” Hocking said.

“Our expectation is he will be available either JLT game two [against Adelaide] but definitely JLT game three [against Essendon].”

“He has completed most of preseason so the medicos have just shut him down and made sure that inflammation has settled, which it has, it has responded really well.”

“He won’t be available to play Friday night but we’ll see how he progresses from there.”

Scott’s brother Joel Selwood will also miss the Cats’ first JLT Community Series match but is tipped to return in game two.
