A contract extension for Geelong coach Chris Scott may yet to be inked, but club chief executive Brian Cook says it’s only a matter of time.

The Cats’ board appear certain to reward their senior coach with a further deal after six years at the helm, as Cook confirmed negotiations are positive and ongoing.

“We’re talking with his manager, Craig Kelly, on a regular basis,” Cook said on Thursday.

“We will finalise a contract at some stage – hopefully sooner rather than later.”

“It’s been discussed at board level. It’s been discussed at executive level, and there’s complete support for Chris and extending the contract.”

Chris Scott took the reins as senior coach for the 2011 season and immediately tasted premiership success that year.

His career win-loss record sits at 102-39 for a 72.18% winning percentage and it’s those numbers which Cook and his board feel warrant an extension.

“Over his six years he’s averaged 17 wins per year, he won a premiership in ’11 when we lost a first good players, including Gary Ablett, and he’s transitioned a list where there’s only 10 players left from when he first came,” Cook said.

“It’s a pretty good record.”
