Sam Menegola made a big impression during his first pre-season at Geelong thanks to his elite aerobic capacity.

Although Menegola has again been impressive in the running drills this summer, he has focussed more heavily on the skills needed to become an elite midfielder.

"[There's] been more of a focus around my work around the contest and refining that," the 24-year-old, who played eight AFL games in 2016, said in a pre-season interview with Cats Media.

Menegola added that there's "been a little bit of a sift in the method we want to use, so I suppose that short, sharp conditioning has probably been more the focus."
