Geelong’s Cory Gregson underwent surgery earlier this week to remove a screw in his foot that was causing discomfort.

Gregson’s foot began to trouble him over the Christmas break and once the screw was confirmed as the issue, specialists advised surgery as the best way forward.

The 20-year-old initially had surgery on the stress fracture in his foot in July last year and missed the second half of the 2016 season.

“Cory’s recovery has been steady, but these types of injuries take time to heal and fully recover,” Geelong’s General Manager of Football Steve Hocking said.

“Unfortunately Cory has been experiencing some pain and surgery was the preferred option to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

“We expect Cory to return to light training duties in around 10 weeks.”

Gregson has played 29 AFL games including nine in 2016.
