Patrick Dangerfield capped off a brilliant first season in the navy and white hoops by taking home the ‘Carji’ Greeves Medal at Crown's Palladium on Thursday night.

Dangerfield’s win marks the fifth time that a Geelong player has won the Brownlow–'Carji' combination in the same season.

Dangerfield was named as the Cats' best in eight of his 24 games, and outdistanced skipper Joel Selwood, who finished in second place.

Six-time All-Australian Corey Enright placed third in a season that saw him become the Cats' all-time games record holder.

Enright announced his retirement earlier this week.

Dangerfield polled a record 35 votes in winning the Brownlow Medal, including nine best on grounds in the eyes of the umpires.

Selwood earned a top three finish for the fifth time in the past six seasons. He won the medal in 2010, 2013 and 2014, placed second in 2012 and third in 2015. He was voted the Cats' best six times through the season.

Enright closed out his career with another top three finish. The 35-year-old defender remained in elite form until the end of his career.

Cameron Guthrie led at the half way point of the count and secured his highest finish in his six years at the club, while vice-captain Harry Taylor completed another impressive season in fifth place.

Dangerfield took the lead in round 13 and remained as the leader for the rest of the season.

Taylor was named as the Tom Harley (best clubman) award winner, Jake Kolodjashnij was recognised as the best young player and Daniel Menzel was named the community champion through his role as Ambassador with the Barwon Health Foundation.

Dan raises profiles for the hospital, is a regular in the wards and mentors young players on their hospital visits.  He also holds a coaching role with the Under 14s and Under 16s Newtown Chilwell Football Club and this year as Under 15s Interleague Coach for AFL Barwon.

This year Dan was also involved in a number of wishes for seriously ill children.
