Despite missing a lot of the pre-season due to a foot injury, the skipper has enjoyed a sensational 2016 campaign. He is averaging 28 disposals per game and seems to be revelling in his new partnership with superstar recruit Patrick Dangerfield.
15. Matthew Hayball

VFL games: 8
Drafted last year, Hayball has battled knee soreness at times but has still been able to show off his skills in the VFL on a number of occasions. He will take time to develop into an AFL player, but the coaches like what they see so far.
16. Scott Selwood

VFL games: 0
The former Eagle is yet to play a game for the Cats after enduring a long recovery from off-season ankle surgery. But he is set to pull on the hoops in the VFL after the bye.
17. Jock Cornell

VFL games: 10
The rookie-listed half-forward from the Riverina has shown some encouraging signs in the VFL, kicking nine goals in his 10 games and twice appearing among the Cats’ best players.
18. Josh Cowan

VFL games: 7
Injuries have again frustrated the tough-as-nails little man, but his recent form in the VFL has him once again knocking on the door of the AFL team.
19. Mitch Clark

VFL games: 4
After being sidelined for more than 12 months by recurring leg problems, Clark has returned in impressive fashion in the VFL. He has kicked 10 goals in his four VFL games and looks set to be recalled to the AFL team in the near future.
20. Ryan Gardner

VFL games: 9
The young Tasmanian, who is in his first season with the Cats, has shown plenty of promise down back in the VFL. He enjoyed a brief moment in the spotlight when he blanketed Travis Cloke in a VFL clash with Collingwood at Simonds Stadium in mid-May.
21. Jordan Murdoch
AFL games: 8
VFL games: 5
The speedy midfielder has been in and out of the AFL side. He is averaging 13.5 disposals per game at the highest level but needs to find more consistency to hold his place in the team during the lead-up to the finals.
22. Mitch Duncan
AFL games: 14
VFL games: 0
Duncan has featured in all 14 of the AFL team’s matches and is averaging a healthy 24 disposals per game. He has also snuck forward and booted five goals.
23. Josh Caddy
AFL games: 13
VFL games: 0
After a great performance against Hawthorn in round one, Caddy had an inconsistent few weeks, before working his way into some very solid form. The tough and skilful half-forward/midfielder is on his way back to fitness after suffering a knee injury in the victory over the Western Bulldogs in round 13. All going to plan, he should be back in action a few weeks out from the finals. He sits fifth on the Cats’ goalkicking table with 13.
24. Jed Bews

The tough backman worked his way into the AFL team and made three appearances at the highest level before being dropped after a disappointing showing against Collingwood. He continues to work his backside off in the VFL and on the training track and is fighting hard to regain his place in the AFL side.
25. Lachie Henderson

VFL games: 0
Took a few rounds to settle into his new role in the Cats’ backline but has been in All Australian form in recent weeks. Is averaging 14.6 disposals and 16.9 marks per game.
26. Tom Hawkins

VFL games 0
The Cats’ leading goal kicker admits its been an indifferent first half of the season individually – yet he’s still kicked 31 majors thus far and ranks third across the competition for contested marks.
27. Sam Menegola
AFL games: 0
VFL games: 4
Showed in the first ten minutes of the NAB Challenge that he has a future at AFL level, only to sustain a significant knee injury. Four games now under the belt in the VFL and should see senior action before 2016 is over.
28. Cory Gregson
AFL games: 9
VFL games: 2
Yet to nail a spot in the senior side but has provided spark across his nine AFL games. Averaging 12 disposals and four tackles.
29. Cameron Guthrie
AFL games: 13
VFL games: 0
Averaging 28 disposals per game, Guthrie has established himself as one of the Cats’ most important players – a line breaker who can play anywhere on the ground. Received outside praise for a best on ground performance against Adelaide and would be in All-Australian contention.
30. Nathan Vardy

VFL games: 4
Finding continuity in the VFL as a main target and leader after a number of injury-plagued seasons. Brought into the senior side in round six to face the Gold Coast and kicked a goal.
