Geelong big man Rhys Stanley suffered a midfoot sprain in his left foot in the last quarter of the Cats’ loss to Carlton on Sunday.

Scans on Monday cleared Stanley of any serious damage and a decision on his availability for this weekend’s game against Greater Western Sydney at Simonds Stadium will be made later in the week.

Stanley was one of the Cats' better players against the Blues. He finished with 19 disposals, 14 hit-outs and a goal.

He and recruit Zac Smith have been key factors in Geelong's improved form in 2016, with the pair providing the Cats an instant boost in their ruck department.

Cats physio Mark Young will bring you a full update on all the Cats' injuries in the latest episode of nib Medical Room on geelongcats.com.au on Tuesday evening.
