Young Cat Michael Luxford has turned a corner in his third pre-season – and turned it with raw speed and improved endurance.

A self-admitted poor runner when he first arrived at Simonds Stadium as a category B rookie in 2013, the 20-year-old has undergone a dramatic transformation this summer which sees him bridging the gap between himself and elite runner Mark Blicavs.

Most recently, Luxford was last man standing in the repeat sprint-based ‘yo-yo’ test last week.

“I knew when I first came here that running was not my forte and I had to work hard on my running and my ability to run out a whole game ultimately,” Luxford said.

“I remember my first two kayer I beat Hawk [Tom Hawkins] and probably Dawson Simpson.”

“I think I’ve come a long way since then.”
