Rather than trawling through pages and pages of trade chatter we will recap each day’s free agency and trade news about the Cats.

We can’t confirm the accuracy of the articles, but we present what the major media outlets are saying with these updates.

Scott Selwood

On Wednesday, October 7, AFL.com.au reported:

WEST Coast coach Adam Simpson says he will meet with Eagles vice-captain Scott Selwood on Wednesday to discuss his playing future.

Selwood became a restricted free agent on Tuesday and it appears increasingly likely that he will leave the Eagles, having been heavily linked with a move home to Geelong.

Zac Smith

AFL.com.au initially reported that Gold Coast ruckman Zac Smith met with the Cats about a possible move to Geelong. The AFL website also said that Smith met with Essendon.

On Wednesday, October 7, AFL.com.au trade guru Nick Bowen reported that Zac Smith has nominated the Cats as his prefered new home.

Lachie Henderson

On Monday, October 5, AFL.com.au published the following story:

... Henderson wants to get to Geelong during the NAB AFL Trade Period and the Cats are keen to come to an agreement with Carlton.

Complicating the issue are negotiations to secure restricted free agent Patrick Dangerfield, with the Cats – whose first pick is No.9 overall – possibly needing to trade for the superstar midfielder if Adelaide matches their offer.

But McKay said Carlton was eyeing another first-round pick for Henderson.

"We think we can get a first-round pick; we're confident we'll get something done there," he said.

"We're in discussions with Geelong and Geelong haven't indicated to us they won't have a first-round pick available to us."

Patrick Dangerfield

Multiple news sources have reported that Dangerfield, who is a restricted free agent, will look to move to the Cats for the 2016 season.

And his manager, Paul Connors, recently declared that his client would, without doubt, be playing for Geelong next year.

In late September, The Age reported that Dangerfield potentially told Adelaide of his decision to leave in August.

News Limited then reported that Adelaide was likely to match Geelong's free agency offer for Dangerfield, forcing the Cats to trade for him.

After Adelaide subsequently announced that Dangerfield had asked for a return to Victoria, numerous media outlets discussed how he would get to Geelong.

Michelangelo Rucci, the chief football writer at the Adelaide Advertiser wrote:"Adelaide Football Club chief executive Andrew Fagan will on Thursday declare that the Crows intend to force free-agent Patrick Dangerfield into the lottery of the AFL draft if Geelong does not strike a fair trade for the star midfielder."

Rucci also went on to declare that: "Dangerfield has assured Adelaide he will only take up an offer from Geelong rather than accept deals from eager clubs Hawthorn, Richmond and Collingwood."

Meanwhile, Jake Niall, senior writer at The Age, reported that the Cats were preparing to offer Dangerfield a six-year multi-million dollar deal.

"His wish to play for the Cats is personal, based on wish to be closer to his family - based in Mogg's Creek - and that of his Geelong-bred partner," Niall wrote.

Jarrad Jansen

AFL.com.au has reported that Jansen, who has not played an AFL game for the Cats, has requested a trade to the Brisbane Lions.

Lions recruiting boss Peter Schwab confirmed that the 192cm midfielder was keen to head north. "We've been tracking his progress this year and he's developed nicely," Schwab said.

"He's been at a great club and he's a young guy looking for an opportunity. We hope we can give him that opportunity to develop in our midfield.

"The Cats are a great club to deal with, so hopefully we'll be able to do something with them (via a trade)."

Josh Walker

News Limited has reported that Walker is a potential target for Carlton.

The article suggested that the Cats and Blues are working on a deal that could see Walker swapped for outgoing Blues defender Lachie Henderson, who is keen to join Geelong, and a draft pick or two.
