Following the critically acclaimed 2014 AFL documentary on the life of an AFL coach, the next installment in the series, The Chosen Few 2, will take you inside the hearts and minds of a remarkable group of young men, the AFL captains.

Airing on Channel 7 and 7Mate during AFL Grand Final Week, The Chosen Few 2, an AFL produced documentary from Peter Dickson, follows past and present AFL captains over a ten month period.

Featuring current AFL captains such as Matthew Pavlich, Nick Riewoldt, Bob Murphy and Luke Hodge, Dickson’s 90-minute documentary was produced from more than 30 interviews and 100 hours of footage.

The Chosen Few 2 illustrates what it takes to reach the pinnacle of leadership at the elite level of Australia’s Game. With unprecedented behind the scenes access, including never before seen on-field vision and audio, The Chosen Few 2, allows viewers the ability to witness first-hand the human side of the AFL captains.

With generous unguarded honesty, the AFL captains share their very personal stories of life in and out of the spotlight highlighting the sacrifices, the expectations and pressures associated with one of the most coveted roles in the elite game.

Dickson, who started his filmmaking career alongside his late brother, filmmaker and former Hawk Robert, said the experience of working closely with the captains for this film was an absolute privilege.

“After telling the story of the AFL Coaches in last year’s documentary, it made me want to explore in film the other most influential leader in a footy club, the captain,” Mr Dickson said.

“For all the captains that took part, past and present in this film, I simply cannot thank them enough for entrusting me to tell their unique story."

One of the featured captains, Joel Selwood, said the film making experience made him reflect on his role as the Geelong Football Club's captain.

“It's a privilege to lead the footy club, at times we forget that even as captains,” Selwood said.

“Working with Pete at stages this year was a good reminder of what we love about the game.

“Pete has real care for the game and the roles individuals play in a big industry, as you will see in the documentary,” he said.

AFL Media General Manager, Peter Campbell, said The Chosen Few 2 documentary showcased the mindset and individuality of the AFL captains.

The Chosen Few 2 gives viewers unprecedented insight into the lives and minds of the most compelling characters in our game, the AFL captains,” Mr Campbell said.

“Peter Dickson is a master story teller and his ability to extract the human aspect of this story, the role of families and the dedication needed to lead teams to success is skillfully told in this year’s documentary.

“We thank the captains, the Clubs and the AFL Players Association for making themselves available while managing the stresses of an AFL season and particularly for their willingness to provide the public with such a rare look at what it’s like to undertake a coveted yet challenging role,” he said.

Prepare to be taken on a roller coaster ride of emotions, from the euphoria to despair and back again. For not only have they chosen this most demanding role, it has chosen them.

These are The Chosen Few.

The Chosen Few 2 features interviews and behind the scenes access with the following past and present AFL captains including their families:  Matthew Pavlich, Nick Riewoldt, Joel Selwood, Travis Boak, Tom Rockliff, Trent Cotchin, Bob Murphy, Taylor Walker, Jobe Watson, Callan Ward, Phil Davis, Marc Murphy, Scott Pendlebury, Luke Hodge, Nathan Jones, Andrew Swallow, Shannon Hurn, Jarrad McVeigh, Kieren Jack, Stephen Kernahan, Wayne Carey, Paul Kelly and Michael Voss.
