The Geelong Cats are pleased to announce Steven Motlop has put pen to paper on a two-year deal which will keep him at the club until at least the end of 2017.

Selected at pick 39 in the 2008 national draft, Motlop debuted in round 2, 2010 against Hawthorn at the MCG.

Motlop enjoyed a breakout season in 2012, playing 22 games and earning himself a rising star nomination.

A member of the 2013 International Rules Series, Motlop was also an All-Australian nominee in that year.

A knee injury interrupted his start to 2014 but he never looked back after a round 7 return.

The 24-year-old enjoyed an excellent second half of season 2015 including a four goal performance against Essendon in round 10 and a career-high 33 disposals against St Kilda in round 21.

“I’m very excited, another couple of years with the Cats. I’m very comfortable down here in Geelong, I love the lifestyle and I love the people and I really love the footy club so it’s good to get the deal done this week,” Motlop told CatsTV.

“I’m very comfortable down here, I’ve got a lot of friends and pretty much family down here so I’m pretty happy.”

Geelong’s General Manager of Football Steve Hocking said the club is thrilled to have the deal finalised after much speculation on Motlop’s future.

“We are really excited to have secured Steven for another two years,” Hocking said.

“Steven is a talented player and he has the ability to change the outcome of a game.

“Over the last few years and this season in particular, we have seen what Steven is capable of and that has us really looking forward to his future.”

Motlop joins a brigade of youngsters to re-sign with the club including Darcy Lang, Jed Bews, Jackson Thurlow, Billie Smedts, George Horlin-Smith, Cameron Guthrie and Jordan Murdoch.

Motlop has played 88 games and kicked 115 goals since his debut for the Cats in 2010.
