Steven Motlop was judged best on ground, receiving the maximum 10 votes from Chris Scott and Leon Cameron in the AFL Coaches' Association Player Of The Year award after his standout performance at StarTrack oval on Saturday.

Picking up 31 disposals, five inside 50s and two goals, Motlop was in blistering form in the nation’s capital.

His strong defensive pressure, skill and ability to burn off his opponents proved why he is such an x-factor to the Cats’ side.

“I’m really confident with my teammates around me, they let me do that sort of stuff so it’s good to play with them,” Motlop told Cats TV after the match.

The 24-year-old admitted having captain Joel Selwood back in the centre of the ground made a big difference.

“He does make a difference, he’s a big body and with Cadds in there we get some speed.

“We have a focus just to be a good defensive, we defended really well as a unit and kept them to 15 points at half-time.”
