Young Cats defender Jake Kolodjashnij has stated his desire to sign on with the club past 2015.

“I’m looking to sign with Geelong, and hopefully that can be done soon,” Kolodjashnij told K-ROCK Football on Sunday.

Kolodjashnij played his second senior game for the Cats on the weekend, picking up 12 disposals and making four tackles.

The 193cm defender from Launceston is in his second season at the club after being selected at pick 41 in the 2013 AFL draft.

“At the moment, I’m just focused on my footy, really, and don’t pay too much attention to the outside stuff.

“I’ve settled in here now and the transition’s been really good coming from Tassie.

“My footy’s going well, and I’m loving the boys, so hopefully I can re-sign soon.”

Kolodjashnij is yet to sign on with the club past this season after being unable to break into the team’s established backline.

“I knew I had to be patient, there’s some great players in our defensive line,” Kolodjashnij said.

Kolodjashnij has played 25 games at VFL level and finished fourth in the VFL best and fairest count in 2014.

“In the VFL, we try to model the game plan around the AFL and it’s a great way to build your craft and work on your game, and it’s definitely held me in good stead.”
