1. Preliminary final, 1994, MCG:
Geelong 16.13 (109) def North Melbourne 14.19 (103)
This was a brilliant contest from start to finish. North made the early running, then the Cats hit back to lead by 24 points at half-time, and Geelong was still 18 points clear at the final change. With Wayne Carey on fire, North came charging home, and scores were level as the game entered its last minute. Just when it seemed the match was destined to end in a draw and be decided in extra-time, Leigh Tudor floated a left-foot pass in the direction of Gary Ablett Snr. The ball evaded Roos defender Mick Martyn and fell into Ablett's lap. As Martyn bemoaned his rotten luck, Ablett kicked the goal and Geelong was into its third Grand Final in six seasons.

2. Round 1, 1999, MCG:
Geelong 22.9 (141) def North Melbourne 21.9 (135)
The Cats and Roos met in the opening game of the 1999 home and away season, and they produced a brilliant contest. Led by Wayne Carey, Anthony Stevens and John Blakey, North controlled the first half, racing to a 40-point lead at the long break. Geelong climbed off the canvas in the third quarter, but still trailed by 29 points at the last change. However, the Cats ran riot in the final term, kicking eight goals to two and snatching a remarkable six-point win. Garry Hocking and Darren Milburn both finished with 28 disposals and a goal, while David Mensch booted four majors. Simon Arnott and Jason Mooney chipped in with three each. It was a great start to the final year of Gary Ayres' stint as senior coach.

3. Round 2, 2013, Etihad Stadium:
Geelong 16.16 (112) def North Melbourne 17.6 (108)
The roof was left open despite a dire forecast, and it became a farcical situation when the predicted rain arrived and the teams found themselves slogging it out in a wet-weather game at what is supposed to be an indoor venue. North made the early running, bolting to a 41-point lead during the second quarter, but Geelong refused to give up. The Cats' comeback ensured the match went down to the wire, and Chris Scott's team prevailed over his brother's side after Jimmy Bartel kicked the winning goal in the last minute following a free-kick and a 50m penalty.

4. Qualifying final, 2007, MCG:
Geelong 23.18 (156) def North Melbourne 8.2 (50)
The first quarter was an even contest, with the Cats leading by just five points at the first change. But Mark Thompson's men ran riot from there, kicking 20 goals to five in the last three quarters. Paul Chapman and Cameron Mooney each finished with five goals, while Nathan Ablett kicked three. Gary Ablett Jnr tallied 32 disposals and two goals. Three weeks later, the Cats broke their 44-year premiership drought.

5. Round 2, 2006, Simonds Stadium:
Geelong 22.6 (138) def North Melbourne 10.9 (69)
The game was still in the balance at half-time, before the Cats kicked seven goals to zip in the third quarter and opened a 64-point lead at the last change. Geelong ended up winning by 69 points, and big forward Kent Kingsley was the star of the show. Kingsley finished with eight goals, which proved to be the best haul of his career. It was a great win, but the form proved to be somewhat of a mirage, as the Cats’ 2006 season soon veered off the rails.
