DANIEL Menzel has started training with the main group as he steps up his recovery from his fourth knee reconstruction.

Menzel, whose progress was halted by hamstring problems earlier this year, looked untroubled as he completed the Cats' session at Simonds Stadium on Tuesday morning.

He has now been moved into the short-term category on the club's injury list, meaning he should be right to play within the next four weeks.

"It is exciting for Dan," Cats physio Mark Young said on the round 12 episode of nib Medical Room.

"He's in full training now, has been for a week, and his hamstring is fully resolved. I guess now we're just finishing off his ACL rehab.

"We need him to get plenty of football in the next month, and then he'll come into consideration."

Menzel suffered his fourth serious knee injury in a VFL game against Box Hill Hawks early in the 2013 season.

He then underwent his fourth knee reconstruction (the third on his left knee) in August that year.

The 23-year-old has suffered a number of setbacks since then, but he remains determined to play again, and he might just do that within the next month.
