The Cats scored a brilliant 77-point AFL win over Carlton on Friday night, then suffered a five-point VFL loss to Port Melbourne on Saturday. Here are our favourite things from the weekend’s action …

1. JORDAN MURDOCH HITTING THE SCOREBOARD
Young ‘Murda’ has been threatening to tear a game apart for some time now, and he delivered a great performance against the Blues at Etihad Stadium. Not only did the 23-year-old South Australian kick four impressive goals, he also tallied 26 disposals, eight marks and four tackles. "He's been working really hard on his game,” Cats coach Chris Scott said after the game. “He's always effective when he gets the ball, but he just needs to get himself in a position to get used a little bit more. That was the pleasing thing for us tonight. He seemed to be involved in the action a little bit more."

2. JOSH CADDY’S VERSATILITY
The 22-year-old was at his bullish best on Friday night. Along with winning eight clearances and racking up 23 disposals (it was only the seventh time he had tallied 23 touches or more), he was very dangerous when moved into attack, posing a threat in the air and on the ground. Caddy made the most of his chances to kick an equal-career high three goals.

3. GEELONG’S BIG SCORE
Prior to the meeting with Carlton, the Cats’ highest score this season was 16.9 (105) against Gold Coast in round three. Yet Chris Scott’s men found their verve in attack at Etihad Stadium, finishing with 22.8 (140), which was their highest score since they booted 21.17 (143) against the Brisbane Lions in round 23 last year. It was the first time Geelong had kicked 22 goals in a match since it thumped Greater Western Sydney in round 11, 2013.

4. CAMERON GUTHRIE SWAPPING HIS JUMPER WITH CHRIS JUDD
The sight of footballers swapping playing strips after matches is common in European soccer competitions, but it hasn’t been seen much in Aussie Rules since the post-Grand Final jumper swap tradition died out in the 1960s. Now Cameron Guthrie has done his bit to bring it back. In a surprise move, Guthrie swapped his guernsey with Carlton champion Chris Judd after the final siren on Friday night. The reason: Judd was Guthrie’s idol as a kid and he was keen to add a Blues No. 5 guernsey to his ‘pool room’ collection.

5.MICHAEL LUXFORD’S VFL FORM
The former basketballer has been among the most improved players at the Cattery in the past 12 months. Having slimmed down markedly and also improved his aerobic capacity, Luxford has become a very dangerous half-forward in the VFL. Against Port Melbourne on the weekend he was again among Geelong’s best players, having tallied a team-high 21 disposals in the narrow loss to the Borough.
