Geelong will take on reigning VFL premiers, Footscray, in an epic clash on Saturday.

Saturday will be the first time the VFL Cats have ventured to the revamped Whitten Oval to play the reigning Premiers for home and away points.

Ben Raidme has been named to line up for the VFL Cats this weekend after a month of solid performances at GFL level. If he plays, it will be Raidme’s first VFL match since 2013 after rupturing his ACL in the 2014 preseason. Raidme would be a welcome addition to this week’s side, bringing leadership and experience to the team.

Young gun Dean Gore will miss another week of football to let nerve pain in his shoulder settle and Ryan Williams is also set to miss another week with an ankle strain suffered in the Cats’ round 3 win over Richmond VFL.

Interestingly, Joel Hamling will play against the Cats for the first time since signing with the Bulldogs at the end of last year and ex-Cats Brent Prismall, who played with Andrew Mackie in his last VFL game nine years ago, will line up for Footscray.

The Cats’ 27-man squad will be cut back to 23 on Saturday morning.
