GEELONG’S first-year dynamo Cory Gregson has won the round six nomination for the NAB Rising Star award.

The 18-year-old South Australian, who has enjoyed a brilliant debut season, was among the Cats’ best players in their 41-point win over Collingwood at the MCG on Friday night.

Gregson finished the game with 18 disposals, seven marks, four tackles, five inside-50s, three great goals and two goal-assists.

The former gymnast, who was selected by Geelong with pick 47 in last year’s national draft, has played in each of the Cats’ six home and away games in 2015 and is averaging just over 14 disposals per match.

“It’s an absolute honour just to be named as the Rising Star nomination, and it just feels good to be recognised for the hard work I’ve put in,” Gregson said on Monday evening.

“I couldn’t be thankful enough for my teammates, all the help they’ve given me, so I’m looking forward to … a few of my other teammates getting nominated.”

Gregson is Geelong’s first Rising Star nominee since George Horlin-Smith was nominated after round four of the 2013 season.
