EMERGING defender Jackson Thurlow is now in Geelong's best 22 regardless of which players are available, according to Cats coach Chris Scott.

Thurlow tallied a career-high 21 disposals in the win over Richmond last weekend, continuing his steady improvement since he returned to the AFL team in round three.

"I think it's a pretty safe bet to say Jackson in our best 22 at the moment, irrespective of availability," Scott said on the round six episode of Tweet The Coach, brought to you by Momentum Energy.

"He had a nasty injury [a lacerated kidney] in the pre-season, which held him up a bit, but he's fitted back into our system really well.

"So hopefully we can get some players back into the team that have got minor injuries at the moment, ut it's pretty safe to say that Jackson's an important part of what we're doing and he won't be one to make way."

Scott also tackled a number of other subjects in Tweet The Coach, including:

* How to give up less marks inside 50
* Whether the Cats need to improve their tackling
* How much work is put into the strategy regarding kick-ins
* Dean Gore and Nakia Cockatoo
