NORTH Melbourne midfielder Jack Ziebell has been discharged from hospital and remains an outside chance to take on Geelong this Sunday.

Ziebell suffered a bruised lung when he attempted to spoil Ollie Wines from behind in the first quarter of North's loss to Port Adelaide on Saturday night.

Ziebell spent two nights in hospital for observation but was released on Monday morning, with his injury believed to be no more serious than the initial diagnosis.

North football director Geoff Walsh said Ziebell's condition had improved enough in the past two days that the Roos were hopeful he could play on Sunday at Simonds Stadium.

"It was a really heavy knock and as a precaution Jack spent the two days in hospital to make sure there was no significant damage or long-lasting impacts from the collision," Walsh told NMFC.com.au.

"Thankfully, Jack's condition is improving each day and he came out of hospital this morning and is in very good spirits.

"We'll monitor him throughout the week before making a decision on whether he plays against Geelong, but with an eight day break between games, we are hopeful he may be able to be a part of Sunday's game."

Ziebell suffered a bruised lung in a collision with Port Adelaide’s Ollie Wines in the first quarter and was taken to the Epworth Hospital in Richmond where he stayed for two nights.
