The VFL Cats will officially kick off the 2015 Peter Jackson VFL Season when they take on the Werribee Tigers at Simonds Stadium tomorrow night.

After four practice matches, the Bendigo Bankers will play round 1 under lights at Kardinia Park. Earlier today it was decided the match be moved from Avalon Airport Oval due to an unfit playing surface.

The VFL Cats have named an extended 31-man squad which will be brought back to 23 late tomorrow afternoon.

After playing the first two practice matches of the year, Josh Cowan will return. Cowan is a handy addition to the side, returning from a hamstring strain which has kept him sidelined for three weeks.

Dawson Simpson will play this Friday night after being omitted from the AFL side. Simpson will team up with ruckman Hamish McIntosh for the first time this year.

Irish recruit Padraig Lucey will play his first home and away game for the VFL Cats after joining the club as a category B rookie late last year.

The 22-year-old originally from Killarney in County Kerry, Ireland played his first game in the blue and white in Townsville during the NAB Challenge.

Since then, 203cm Lucey has played for the VFL Cats, proving he has a lot of potential for a man who hasn’t played a lot of AFL footy.  

Former Port Adelaide Power utility and three time SANFL premiership player Ryan Williams has also been named for the VFL Cats tomorrow night after impressing during the pre-season.

The two sides will play for the K-Rock Cup, a trophy that Werribee currently holds after defeating the Cats in round 11 last year.

Tomorrow night’s match begins at 7.30pm with the Polly Farmer Gate open from 6.30pm. Seating and catering will be available in the Reg Hickey Stand on the Moorabool Street side of Simonds Stadium.
